The Mega Square Herbarium is based on the work of Basilius Besler, the famous plant expert who, for the first time in history, described, painted and engraved over a thousand species of plants. The Mega Square will be the ideal gift, treating an interesting and different subject in a small and practical format.
The overall themes of the articles don't really change that much. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to make something of his (or her) life. The paintings come from a famous botanist called Basilius Besler (even his name sounds like some of the Latin names for plants) who apparently spent sixteen years creating plates of the many many plants in a famous garden from way back when.
The text is quite interesting and the paintings are great, and on the opposite page it gives you the common and Latin name for each plant (which brought back a few memories).
While I'd only advise this for plant lovers, for me this book served as a trip down memory lane and I'm happy my husband picked it up.. In fact they are exploited in a sense. So many times we try to stay inside the box--we follow the golden rule, we ask for guidance, we ask for permission, we seek others approval before WE can even make a decision.
