In The Regulations of Robbers, Christina Accomando examines legal, political, and literary discourses of slavery and resistance through the works of judges, lawmakers, and former slaves. She builds on the words of Harriet Jacobs - I regarded such laws as the regulations of robbers, who had no rights that I was bound to respect - and advocates a methodology of multiple perspectives, exposing the false neutrality of legal discourse and turning attention to stories that have been suppressed. Accomando analyzes Sojourner Truth (who initiated lawsuits and petitioned Congress) and Harriet Jacobs (who shaped her autobiography into legal critique) as legal actors who challenged nineteenth-century legal constructions of African Americans. She argues that laws governing slave behavior, racial identity, miscegenation, rape, reproduction, literacy, and property defined. Christina Accomando is a professor of English and Critical Race, Gender & Sexuality Studies at Humboldt State University in Arcata, California. Her scholarship and teaching focus on the law and literature of U.S. slavery and resistance, including the work of Harriet Jacobs, Sojourner Truth and Frederick Douglass, as well as contemporary issues of race, gender and the law. Her articles have appeared in Still Seeking an Attitude: Critical Reflections on the Work of June Jordan (Lexington Books), the Norton Critical Edition of Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, and journals including MELUS, African American Review, Feminism & Psychology, and The Antioch Review.

I was interested in this work as I prefer male writers to female writers as the latter exceed on descriptions. I honestly felt more sadness at the loss of some potentially good storylines that were set up at the beginning of the book instead of the how it all turned out. bad quality overall. I picked Alex up and hugged him tight. She got out her frustration in her tantrum, felt better, then moved onto something else.

I highly recommend this book. Instead of a poem written all at once or over several days, this one took a year to complete, so the emotional ups and downs are captured, as well.. It is much appreciated and will be used by our team in the coming years!. Seabrook has authored over thirty books pertaining to this period of history.
